About Tasmania

Launceston is a riverside city in northern Tasmania, Australia. It’s famed for the Cataract Gorge, with panoramic views, walking trails, sculpted gardens and a chairlift. The Queen Victoria Museum, in a 19th-century railway workshop, has exhibitions on Tasmanian history. Its sister Art Gallery lies across the river, by sprawling Royal Park. The vineyards of the Tamar Valley stretch northwest along the Tamar River.

Launceston is worth a visit, make sure you walk up the gorge to the lake and the outdoors swimming pool if you are there, also north of Launceston we found a little place where they bred sea horses and sea dragons – great to see the weedy sea dragons! Port Arthur, one of the first oz convict settlements is interesting.
Launceston is Tasmania’s second major city and a vibrant hub for food and wine, culture and nature. In fact, the whole region is packed with city and country charm, gorgeous old towns, excellent food and wine and beautiful scenic highlights.
If you enjoy a picturesque city with a world class views then Hobart is better. If you like touring around and visiting charming towns, wineries, national parks and attractions then Launceston is slightly better. If you like historic attractions, wildlife, beaches and agriculture then Hobart is slightly better.
